Allowing political calls effectively amounts to a bribe to the politicians
to get them on our side when it comes to marketing calls. By letting them
do something that we want them to prohibit others doing, we make them feel
important and hence appeal to their egos. That makes it easier to get them
to do what we want in other areas.
Anyway, I look on political calls as an opportunity for me to tell them
what I think, rather than vice versa. It's a useful chance to ask them when
a decent anti-spam bill will be in their manifesto, for example.
