Just a few points to get you thinking... ;-)
I'd be a bit worried about the effect of the inductance introduced by the long wires vs Switching
Being a switchmode PSU, that transistor and diode are kept pretty busy with a rather high voltage.
Probably some EMI issues to go with that too. (6cm antennas)
