I would agree it has to be to do with the speed controller. Either
faulty, or else its speed control feedback loop is stable at the 50Hz
motor speed, but isn't when the motor tries to run 20% faster.
Or perhaps it cuts the motor power when it senses the motor is running
too fast? Who knows.
2 options spring to mind: one is to run without the speed controller,
which is OK with some setups (50/60Hz motors), and a total no-no with
some (high freq motors run off chopping supplies).
Another possibility is to adjust Vsupply with a small transformer to
get the motor speed back to what it was designed to be: this won't
work with induction motors, but with most other types it will.
I think the main Q here is what type of motor do you have? Is it
induction or not?
