Try to find an old copy of the RCA Solid-State Power Circuits,
Designer's Handbook. It has a whole bunch of amplifier circuits made
entirely of discrete transistors that range from milliwatts to about
100 watts. And it contains nice circuit descriptions and starts with
all the theory on transistors and all the other solid state
components. I have the 1971 edition.
