I believe every commercial SPICE ships with trtol
at 7 by default except LTspice. I didn't "correct"
the interpretation of trtol by a factor of 6,
since it's interpretation has become in my opinion
a standard and a fixed value is often specified in
decks. I do let you pick the default instead of
leaving it hard-wired in the code. The best value
for trtol certainly is most easily empirically
determined and depends strongly on the circuit.
Small circuits using macro models based heavily on
LTspice's mixed-mode simulator run better for novice
users with trtol at a lower value. Transistor level
circuits run better with trtol at a higher level.
I hope this helps.
