I had a similar experience with an old Brand X scope a few years back (manufacturer's name concealed, but you can probably guess). They shipped it back saying a particular IC was bad and the part was obsolete, couldn't be replaced. Well...I took a look at the IC. It was a standard EPROM that I could buy at any distributor for a couple of bucks. Conclusion: * They somehow lost the program that this EPROM stores. * They wanted me to buy another scope.
