Joey, In My Humble Opinion, it's not a good idea to solicit designs for
items that you are going to test with your life, not the designer's life.
It's always been my opinion that anybody that designes critical hardware or
software for aircraft should do so with the knowledge that they will be on
the first flight test of their design.
There are a whole host of issues that your typical designer on the net may
not think thru, and certainly won't try it on a similar aircraft:
#1: What does the FAA and the FAR's say about trying untested designs
on your aircraft?
#2: Has the design been tested under actual conditions of vibration,
temperature extremes, pressure changes, electrical noise, switching
transients, other electrical fault conditions, RF interference from radios,
electrical storms, lightning, corona, rain?
#3: How are you going to test it under actual overvoltage from an actual
#4: Has the designer thought about situations where you might be better off
without the device? For example, if your battery cables fail or the
battery dries up or sulphates-up, the alternator may crank out peaks over 16
volts, but the average voltage level may still be adequate enough to operate
some electrical equipment. In this case,
you don't want the voltage limiter to shut off the alternator.
