First off, right-click on the desktop, then on "Arrange Icons" and make sure
that "Auto Arrange" is not checked. Then, arrange the icons any way that you
There's a nice easy way to keep them where you want them, even following an
inadvertent rearranging or a safe-mode startup. Go to
ftp://chris-tech.com/pub/util/dtbu/ and download both files in that folder.
Copy the .DLL file into your Windows\System folder. Then, right-click on the
.REG file and merge it into your registry. After that, you will see two new
items on the context (right-click) menu for My Computer -- "Save Desktop
Icon Layout" and "Restore Desktop Icon Layout". The rest should be
