Hmmm, well there are several JPEG compression chips out there.
Most of um are used for digital camera's and most are fast microprocessors
with builtin jpeg compression firmware.
ST makes some so does TI and many others too. You will find that many of the
chips are really companion chips for
CDD sensors, but they can be interfaced to framegrabber circuitry.
Using an Atmel AVR (the new 16 Mhz ones) is possible but a big
Fifo/sram/dram will be needed to store the image while is beeing compressed
For the framgrabber you will need a sync seperation chip and a video A/D
converter, that interfaces with the Fifo/sram/dram
seen some nice homebuilt framgrabbers online
So its not really a fantasy project in mu view but its by no means "Easy"
