I strongly agree with that. Engineering managers have long been
conditioned to think that one costly instrument is inevitably better
than several more modest ones. So you get everyone squabbling about
getting time on the 500 MHz scope to measure 10 MHz stuff, instead of
everyone having their own 100 MHz scope.
This goes right down to the sort of simple equipment that you are
thinking of. Keep thinking, followed by doing!
