These things do tend to be once-in-a-lifetime events.
They usually come as a surprise, even in Phoenix - high velocity guns
fire the bullet faster than the speed of sound (though it slows down
fairly quickly). You could be dead before you could hear anything.
And then there is the 0.5 second processing lag in the brain ....
