I suppose one could use an old laptop to breadboard
It makes a pulse on a printer port pin.
Minimum pulse width is 1 ms.
Maximum pulse width is 2 ms.
From my servo driver code.
Pulse width modulated radio control servos?
They run fine on 5v.
I generally use a 7805 for the servo power.
Just to isolate the computer stuff from the motor noise.
And a buffer between the parallel port and the servo
control pin - to protect the parallel poer from possible
dammage. But the servos take very little current on the data pin.
Not an electrical problem for a parallel port.
This is a single pin driver.
eight pins are avaliable on the port (more actually, but these are
the data pins)
But we'll leave that implementation for the student
as an exercise in bit masking...
Anyway, here's to delay loops.... :^)
PWM Proc far
; ENTER WITH:
; AL = servo channel (bit(s) to set)
; BL = desired position (Pi/256th) (180 degree travel/256)
; DX = LPT port address
; LD = Lead-In Delay (loop count for 1 milisecond)
; SD = Short Delay (# of loops for 1/256th of 1 ms.
OUT DX, AL ; START OF THE PULSE
K10: MOV CX, LD ; LEAD-IN DELAY (1 MSEC)
K10B: NOP ; 3 CLOCK CYCLES
NOP ; loop tuning
MOV CH,0 ; 2ND HALF;
MOV CL,BL ; BL HAS POSITION
K12: PUSH CX
MOV CX, SD ; Short delay variable
MOV AL,0 ; TURN BITS OFF
OUT DX, AL ; END OF THIS PULSE **************
