Have you had a look at the 4 QD website on motor control?
There is lots of info there.
You'll find the site using a Google search quite easily.
A work mate of mine repaired the bosse's wife's
motorised golf caddy. It had a small car battery
but I do recall the motor was not a car starter motor.
He replaced the whole control unit with his own
scratch built 555 and two paralled 20 amp fets.
I do recall the lady complaining that she had to run after
the golf caddy occassionally when she was learning to
use the new speed control knob. Heh heh heh.......
If you find the starter motor that you have is a bit too strong
perhaps have a look at golf caddy or golf buggy motors
or even a smaller stater motor from a small 3 cylinder car.
Suzuki 540cc, Daihatsu 650cc etc. About a fiver in your
money from the car wrecking/breakers yard.
Maybe work up gradually using parralled cheap fets on
smaller motors, gradually getting bigger, rather than risk
popping an expensive device on the first swich on with
your big starter motor. That would be my approach but
I am sure you know all that already.
