I agree entirely. You would think that the USA would have learned from
the experience of Prohibition, even if no other country has.
I have no interest in trying the recreational drugs that are still
illegal, but it's obvious that you can't stop people taking them. Laws
that can't be effectively and uniformly enforced bring the whole legal
system into disrepute, and lead to more threats to 'law and order' than
are caused by the physiological effects of drugs, but not more than
those caused by the need for money to feed a habit.
