I have a small portable telephone recording device (Bell Equipment Sonecor
Model No.: BE-310VTR) which connects between the handset and base. I am not
happy with the quality of the sound: the other party's voice is quite clear,
but my voice is almost impossible to understand. I have tried the unit on a
couple of different phones with the same result. Maybe I have a defective
unit which I need to return, but I'm wondering about the following
Would it be safe to modify a cord (install a different plug) so that I can
connect the tape recorder directly to the line that goes into the telephone
(in the same way that a caller ID box connects to the line?) Since I know
little about electronics I don't want to end up burning up the recorder, my
house, or getting the telephone company knocking on my door.
