Just two or three books off the shelf Win.
Plus a desire for A.D Blumlein to get at least
some of the recognition that was thwarted by
his early death in WWII.
The UK had some remarkable mathematicians/scientists
doing concentrated work during WWII. Some survived
the war, some did not. Even for those who survived,
the UK's Secrecy Legislation was (is) so draconian
that much of their original work remained under wraps.
For example, the Public Key Encryption was initially
invented by a chap at the UK's GCHQ, something like
10 years before it was re-invented (and immediately
published?) in the US. AIUI, the US chaps became
millionaires with it, the UK chap had to quietly
carry on working in GCHQ.
