Mossad did the bomb in the phone thing a few years ago IIRC so this has been
used in anger.
Personally I think that a device built in a old gas bottle with pressure
and vibration switches, then pressurise the bottle before arming would be
a real shit if you needed to disarm rather then blow in place.
Note that blow in place is the favoured method of dealing with most bombs
anyway as it is viewed as the least risky approach.
Therefore if trying to build a bomb, you want to design so that a
'controlled' explosion in the vicinity will cause the main charge to go up.
