The federal government has a constitutionally limited scope.
It is supposed to oversee interstate commerce, but the definition of
interstate commerce has been stretched enormously for the sake of the
Liberal Democrat agenda. It is the regulations which require that
stretching that are inappropriate.
The Feds are also supposed to be responsible for national security, but
you don't have to stretch that definition at all to cover this.
So the contradiction you are trying to point out doesn't exist.
