I was going to use a separate LM317 for the crystal supply, I thought
that stepped C array was a bit of "audiophile bullshit"

The article did not provide any specifications, that why I posted the
question, does it look a reasonable circuit in the first place, being
not very knowledgeable about crystal oscillators
I've just been looking at the CMAC site, they didnt supply any jitter
info on the data sheets :(

An old AES paper shows this graph, this was when 16bit ADC/DACs were
so better than this, some guys are saying that 9pS jitter is too much
these days, with 24bit converters being standard issue

yes, to maximum of 4 devices, and a divide by 256 for a wordclock
