It's a bit like defamation in a radio or TV broadcast, which, under
English law, is libel, not slander. But AIUI, there has never been a
higher court decision in respect of defamation on Usenet.

Well, it's a grey area. Abusive, as opposed to just satirical, words
could be actionable.
