Well, the blue ones are really cool looking. Actually, so are all the
other colors. But Pepsi seems to thing blue is cool, too(!) I ordered 40
blue LEDs from Nichia last week, and I came home last night to find the
Fedex tag on my door saying they tried to deliver yesterday. Problem is
that for some reason, Nichia insists that the purchaser sign for them and
not someone else, so the only way I can get them is after work, go down to
the Fedex office and pick them up.
Ssomeone posted a thread about a 'do nothing box'. Well, here's the ideal
place for using LEDs to fascinate and impress people, especially the young
ones. A couple rows of blinking LEDs, especially if they're adjustable,
can really distract a person. I made up a couple blinkies for the shop at
work, and people can't seem to keep their hands off them.
I think the blue LEDs are going to be a real hit. A guy parked his car and
left the parking light on, and he had put blue LEDs in the windshield
washer squirters on the hood. Well, 3 or 4 kids came down to look at them
and they were all over his car like flies on dog doo-doo, saying Ooh! and
The big thing with the new Dell servers at work is the bright blue LEDs
behind the logos on the front. Of course, when something costs ten grand,
it _should_ have something on it that impresses people, since just about
everyone doesn't give a hoot about whether or not it's got dual Zeons with
a gig of SDRAM.
I've been having a lot of fun with the white LEDs, and the white Luxeon
Stars have been a real big hit also. Us guys aren't the only ones that
like tools, some of the women are getting into this also. So look for more
bright, pretty LEDs in gizmos everywhere!
