Talking about quickly! I ordered 25 of the SPL-60 3V, 30 mA solar cells
from All Electronics, it was the morning of Dec 4th, and I got them this
afternoon, the 6th. By U.S. postage, which is the fastest I've ever
gotten anything from them, even regular mail. I'm playing around with
them right now, but since it's dark, I can't get any idea of how well
they work. I get 3V OC and about 4 mA SC with the cell directly under a
17W CFL lamp. But it's impossible to simulate the 1 kW per square meter
of sunlight at noon with what is used for normal illumination.
I'm thinking that I can connect two in series and also a 1N5817 Schottky
diode, and charge four AA Ni-MH cells up during the daytime, and then at
night the cells will run a little FM transmitter that draws maybe 10 mA.
I wanna put it on top of the bird feeder that the lady across the lawn
has hung from the tree. I might need to add preemphasis to get the
bird chirps clearly.
