Although I prefer C in some incarnation or another, that is just because I
am very familiar with assembler, machine code, and the internal logical hardware
of systems that I work on. C allows you the power of assembler and the
flexibility of high level languages.
However, I also will write short programs in Basic when something says it
will go together quickly and easily that way. I often put a quick "proof of
principle" together in Basic and then will write it in depth in C. There is no
reason to be ashamed of Basic, as it is a logical language that allows you to
pretty much do whatever you want.
But these are my preferences, and the fact is, people should write code in
whatever language their target system will support and they happen to be
comfortable with. You will tend to write better code in a language you can
Thinking in Basic is second nature to many people when a procedure occurs to
them, and thinking in C come quite easily to others. Go with the flow. Use
whatever you like and enjoy the experience.
