90min isn't bad for flashlight kind of application. 8W is 1 1/3A at 6V and
regular AA alkaline doesn't handle current that high too welll and you're bound
to get very short life. Energizer Ultra battery which is optimized for higher
current draw should help. Better yet, you will get better life out of AA NiMH
1700-1850mAh cells. They have much lower internal resistance and having much
lower loss in battery more than makes up for the lower capacity.
