Because in the back of the '90 Linear Tech Data book, p.4-170, shows a 2 pin
TO-3 and a 4 pin TO-3. The data sheet shows only a 2 pin and says pin 1 is
adj, pin 2 is Vin and case is Output. Page 14-12 , shows a " K package 2 lead
TO-3 Metal Can" and a "K package 4 Lead TO-3 Metal Can" , but it doesn't
mention what the 4 pins are.
Also on page 14-3 , there's a table of package cross ref.
TO-3 4 Lead = K for LTC, NSC, FSC, SG.
