I would connect the 5 buttons to RB0-RB4 to ground,
not +5V. Then from +5V to RB0-RB4 the 5 pullup-resistors.
If the buttons are close to the PIC, you can even leave
out the pullups, since the PIC has weak build-in pullups.
But better to be safe than sorry, so I would leave them
Personally, I would also forget about the RTS/CTS, but it
does no harm to put them in, even if they are not used.
To use them would require more software, really not
worth the hassle.
If you modify A1 for Transmit and A0 for Receive you can
use this software to test your idea:
There is a c-file there, but also a hex-file, needed to program
the PIC. Once that all works, you can move to the next step.
