They would provide a short boost, but IMHO, it would take lot more
caps than we can add to a typical bot (that's already within ounces of
exceeding its weight limitation) to make a difference.
Providing dozens of amps for a couple of seconds, and being ready for
another needed boost a second or two later, would probably drop the
battery voltage just as much as the motor itself would. Most of the
driving is constant forward and backward movement.

I'm not up to speed as to how this could be used properly in a typical
bot, but if it weighs more than a couple of pounds for a 100A, 20V-24V
unit, most won't bother with it. They'll just take the voltage drop
into account when designing their drive train or weapon.

No weight budget left for that. The caps, additional cabling, cap
armor, mounts, etc. all add up to more than the benefit the caps might

Don't know. Several builders have lots of experience with composites.
But for most builders, the disadvantages outweigh the advantages.

It is an *astoundingly* expensive hobby. Thank goodness there's lots
of destruction to watch to make it worthwhile.

Go for it! But, I can't even begin to describe the destructive
potential of the bots competing nowadays. The big boys can easily rip
through 1/2" of 6-4 titanium. with a good hit. Any aluminum doesn't
have a chance. What's much worse are the g-forces involved. What
good is our armor if the insides get scrambled. The great majorit of
combat robots lose due to internal damage, not because another 'bot
spread it across the arena.
Part of my stress testing consisted of dropping my 59lb bot out of a
second story window, several times. Then launching it full speed
(15MPH) against a stone wall, dozens of times. Add a few trips down
four flights of stone stairs at full speed, and I considered the
