X-Admin: firstname.lastname@example.org From: email@example.com (GunnyGooGoos) Newsgroups: alt.politics.org.fbi Date: 24 Sep 2003 02:45:57 GMT Organization: AOL http://www.aol.com Subject: REPOST: Murder Of Officer Jason Pratt: An Historical Perspective Message-ID: <firstname.lastname@example.org> With the latest in the line of duty death of an Omaha, Nebraska Police Officer, and following the posting regarding the Kobe Bryant Case and its racial bias toward black males, one can take a look at the racial make up of the last three cop killers in Omaha, Nebraska. Not being one to feel much sympathy for the Omaha Police Division, this is somewhat difficult. Also, the fact is that I am personally only familiar with the last three Omaha Police Officers to be killed in the line of duty. Now let's counter the racially biased posting by Bakari Akil II which leads the BlackOmahaOnline.com website currently, with an equally biased yet rational posting regarding the last three murders of white Omaha Police Officers by black men. The first in modern times was the death of OPD Officer Minardi who was blown up by a coward's bomb after responding to a call to check out some sort of trouble at a north Omaha home. Officer Minardi responded as is required by Omaha Police Officers to the radio call in the predominantly black part of town. He responded at the request of an African American caller in need of help. Minardi was killed when a bomb hidden in the home detonated. The bomb was made of simple TNT, but was intentionally placed in such a way as to kill the officer responding to the emergency call. Two black men, Poindexter and Rice, alleged members of the racist terrorist gang known as the Black Panthers, were accused and convicted of the booby trapped premeditated murder of Officer Minardi and are currently serving life sentences in the Nebraska State Pen. It is a wonder these two were not given the death penalty for this cowardly and heinous act of premeditated murder. Officer Minardi was killed in 1970 or thereabouts and it was not until decades later that the next Omaha Police Officer would die in the line of duty, again murdered by a black male in an act of premeditated murder. OPD Officer Jimmy Wilson, Jr., killed when he pulled over a van known to be used by drug trafficking criminals operating out of the Southside Terrace Housing Project in South Omaha. When Wilson stopped the van, one black male suspect was waiting with an AK47 assault rifle to ambush and kill the officer before he could search or question the occupants. This was not be chance, but was premeditated on the part of his assailants who were tired of being "harassed" by the police in as much as they never would obey the law in their history as Omaha citizens and decided to kill cops rather than obey the law and avoid arrest. Wilson, Jr. was cut down after making the traffic stop and never even made it out of his police cruiser before the gunman leapt from the van and opened up on the officer, hitting him several times with ammunition capable of penetrating his bullet proof vest. As was Minardi decades earlier, Wilson was killed instantly. And, as was the case with the cop killers Rice and Poindexter decades earlier, the gunman was spared from the Nebraska Electric Chair and is also currently serving a life sentence in the Nebraska State Pen. About a decade later, we now find ourselves listening to the rhetoric of men like Bakari Akil II, taking the rape case of Kobe Bryant and twisting it into some sort of racially motivated bias against black men. In the meantime, yet another black male Omahan has chosen to take the life of another Omaha Police Officer. Again, the cop killer is a black male and the victim is a white male officer. The background of this latest murder of a white Omaha police officer by black male assailants is very fresh as the officer was laid to rest today. Omaha Police Officer Jason Pratt was killed when he responded to a radio call to assist fellow officers in searching for a man who had taken off on foot after being stopped for an allegedly routine traffic violation. The suspect was wanted for outstanding felony warrants and did not want to go to jail. So instead of avoiding the law altogether or obeying the law, he decided to kill the police officer searching for him. Pratt was shot in the head before he ever got off a shot with his sidearm despite being a recognize police marksman. Again, time after time, in Omaha, Nebraska, a black male murders a white male police officer. But this last time the assailant, a young gun slinger named Rucker, did not live to see his day in court. Rucker was shot to death by Officer Pratt's partner immediately following Pratt's shooting. The tax payers of Omaha saved some money on that one as no court proceedings were necessary nor were the $35,000.00 a year incarceration fees associated with housing a prisoner in the Nebraska State Pen. So here is the "historical perspective" of the last three murders of Omaha Police Officers in the city of Omaha, Nebraska. Draw from this what you will. Both Jimmy Wilson, Jr. and Jason Pratt were known to their fellow officers as over zealous or overly aggressive in their pursuit of "the bad guys". Pratt was eulogized following his shooting by his commanders and fellow officers as a man who regularly volunteered for "point", or in civilian terms, the first man in line when entering a potentially dangerous situation. A Vietnam Veteran once advised me that I had a similar passion for danger and told me that I would not have made it home from Vietnam with such an attitude. I took this as a compliment for years until realizing that it was not. It was an admonishment for being too ignorant for my own good. Eventually, I learned from this one simple statement and associated personal events that followed. I grew older, less aggressive, and definitely less idealistic. It may be that one statement by a decorated exMarine and combat veteran to myself saved my life once the statement had a few years to sink in. It is too bad that Officer Jason Pratt, 30 years of age when killed and nearly ten years my junior, did not have a similar opportunity to have his fellow officers save his life by pointing out to him that when you constantly volunteer to be the man most likely to be killed or injured, you most likely will be the man who gets killed or injured. Everyone, civilians and soldiers alike, have to face life and death situations. Police officers occasionally face more of these than most. But to volunteer for dangerous duty on the basis of Bravado is to ask to be killed. At any rate, the racial makeup of the last three cop killers in Omaha, Nebraska were they were black males. All killed white male officers. And unlike Bakari Akil II's lead off story on BlackOmahaOnline.com alleging racial bias in rape accusations of black males by white females, one does not have to go back half a century to get the facts.
