The people voted on whether to increase their property taxes or take a cut in city services, and the people said to Hell with the fire department. Yesterday, Council Bluffs, IA announced it was going to lay off four fire fighters due to a lack of funding. The tax payers were aware that the fire department would be the ones facing the cuts, and they voted to let them go. Hurray for Council Bluffs, IA! Two junior fire fighters claimed publicly that THEY didn't think $1.50 was too much for every tax payer to pay to keep them on the payroll. But, of course, that's the fire pukes opinion when it was their jobs on the line. Across the river in Omaha, Nebraska, city of Omaha employees were laid off in a similar fashion, all but the fire fighters and police officers. Fire fighters didn't feel that other city of Omaha employees making sacrifices to allow them their increased pay packages was too much to ask, either. Council Bluffs, IA leaders commented that the shortage of manpower could be made up for in case of an emergency by arrangements made with neighboring volunteer departments. Volunteer as in not for pay, which should be the status of all fire fighters in America. Learn from the Council Bluffs, IA, example, America. We can do without the tax burden of most of the fire fighters in America. Property taxes will not be raised and could actually be lowered extensively by laying off or flat out eliminating the positions of most fire fighters. The beginning of a great day for tax paying American citizens. I would't give $1.50 for any ten of them.
