Message-ID: <email@example.com> Do Refrigerators Make Good Play Ground Equipment? In an email to the Chief of the Omaha Fire Division recently, photographic evidence of an abandoned refrigerator was presented to Chief Robert Dahlquist indicating that a member of his department, the brother of the union President, had abandoned an old refrigerator next to the play ground of his wife's day care center. More accurately, the death trap for children was abandoned ON the play ground of his residence where his wife ran a day care for not only other people's children, but her own four as well. The fire fighter, whose name will not be mentioned to prevent retaliation by child advocacy groups, had originally secured the doors of the abandoned refrigerator with two pieces of masking tape while it sat within fifteen feet of the plastic swing sets, slides, and other play ground equipment of his residence. The children broke open the masking tape nearly the same day the refrigerator was placed outside the home and the fire fighter did not re-secure the doors, if taping them with easily tore masking tape is considered securing them in the first place. The refrigerator sat at the residence like this for several weeks while the day care, likely unlicensed, was continually operated by the fire fighter's wife. Exactly how many kids can a fire fighter or his wife fit into an abandoned refrigerator, one whose doors are not secured and is a death trap for these little people? Don't fire fighters lecture the public on the dangers posed to children from suffocation from abandoned refrigerators? Perhaps fire fighters don't live up to the same code of conduct they expect the public to? Perhaps the training at the Omaha Fire Division is lacking or a number of fire fighters are so incompetent and irresponsible as to present a danger to the public? No reply to the email by Chief Dahlquist was received. Apparently, the Omaha Fire Division is unaware of the obvious dangers abandoned refrigerators pose when the doors are not properly secured. Or they don't care what their men do, learn, or are capable of. This man continues to draw pay from the tax payers of Omaha, Nebraska, and his wife is still responsible for the well being of children. Go figure.
