A slightly wounded soldier who could well have been "retreating" to a position where he
could have taken out the Swift Boat and it's crew with the weapon (a B-40) that he had.
Apparently you have never been in combat, so I encourage you to ask all those relatives
who have -- when in that situation, you shoot to kill - period. You don't ask the guy
(and keep in mind there were more than just that one VC) to surrendur and/or put down
his weapon. You shoot him.
Kerry did that, and lives were likely saved because of it.
A few weeks later, a VC with a B-40 did just that. One of those Swift Boats present 28
Feb (the date of Kerry's Silver Star incident) was destroyed and two crew were KIA,
including one of Kerry's fellow Lt's
I am glad to hear of the service of others in your family. My hat is off to them. . .

So what? Purple Hearts are given for being wounded. Kerry was wounded. Lucky for him
that it wasn't serious. . . .
