The Respiratory Care Practitioner is responsible for:
The assessment of respiratory patients with acute and chronic
illnesses to insure delivery of clinical appropriate respiratory
care procedures, as prescribed by the medical staff for neonate,
pediatric, adolescent and adult patients.
Instructing, orienting and making recommendations to medial,
nursing, paramedical personnel and respiratory care students,
regarding respiratory care procedures.
Keeping up to date and maintaining proficiency on all current
and new procedures equipment, related to the delivery of
respiratory care
Assisting with equipment processing sterilization stocking, as
needed
Performing pulmonary function testing and blood gas analysis
and performing other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS< U>:
Monitors environmental control systems and patients on
mechanical ventilation or various oxygen support systems. Is
responsible for maintaining secure and patent patient
airway.
Sets up equipment and medications and administers all assigned
respiratory treatment as ordered by the physician, provides
accurate and through documentation of therapy, patient response,
patient progress and pertinent changes per department
policies.
Identifies and documents appropriate patient assessment and
treatment objectives patient outcomes. Participates in patient
management decisions plans. Recommends and requests physician
evaluation and renewal of Respiratory Care Services.
Functions at all times as a team member, supporting peers and
management to provide optimal, effective and efficient
respiratory care.
Obtains, analyzes and reports arterial, venous and capillary
blood gases under physician's order. Is responsible for quality
control and level I maintenance of all blood gas machines.
Functions as a member of the code blue and trauma teams,
performing cardiac massage, artificial respiration, maintaining
patient airway and assisting with intubation
Accurately completes up-dates and development through master
of patient services and patient charge entry
Sets up and removes equipment and makes changes as necessary
during patient rounds
Changes nebulizers, humidifiers, bag masks, Rx-set-ups and
ventilator circuits per policy and resets all parameters as
prescribed by a physician
Performs nastracheal and tracheal suctioning
Provides patient parent instruction and education in
respiratory related disease processes and therapeutic procedures
to be continued by the patient at home.
Administers diagnostic testing procedures to determine the
extent of the client's patient's impairment and or
appropriateness of Rx ventilation parameters.
