("Our business now is North") Date: 11 Jan 2004 09:59:26 -0800 Organization: http://groups.google.com Message-ID: <email@example.com> NNTP-Posting-Host: 22.214.171.124 NNTP-Posting-Date: Sun, 11 Jan 2004 17:59:26 +0000 (UTC) Col. Tim Collins, late of 1st Battalion, Royal Irish Regiment is quitting Britain's army. Perhaps he is looking for a job. Collins has submitted his resignation and will leave the UK Army this summer, according to a story in The Mail and in other news sources. Speaking through his wife, Col. Collins expressed disappointment in the UK civilian leadership that underfunds the military of the world's fourth largest economy. In March of 2003, then Lt. Col. Tim Collins made a stirring speech to his troops as they prepared to take out the terrorist regime of Saddam Hussein. Portions of the text of Col. Collins' speech have been widely circulated and the speech is frequently praised as Churchillian in stature. After telling his troops "We go to liberate not to conquer. We will not fly our flags in their country. We are entering Iraq to free a people and the only flag which will be flown in that ancient land is their own. Show respect for them. There are some who are alive at this moment who will not be alive shortly. Those who do not wish to go on that journey, we will not send. As for the others I expect you to rock their world. Wipe them out if that is what they choose. But if you are ferocious in battle remember to be magnanimous in victory." Collins ended his speech with "Our business now is North" From VikingPhoenix Military Pages http://vikingphoenix.com/blog/milblog/ourbusinessnowisnorth.htm
