The way I read it, there was a big lull (probably several) as people watched
to see what would happen. First the dictionary .coms went, but I suppose it
seemed inconceivable that so many could be taken. Everyone no doubt has
tales of the fantastic .coms they could have got early on, or the one they
missed by a few hours, I certainly have. That's one of the reasons that
things are so ruthless now, that they feel they "missed their chance." Also
people do behind an anonymous computer screen what they would not do in
their own town, for fear of what people would think.
Do you think that offering $250 for a three-letter .com is an effective way
of upsetting a domain speculator?!
The .ws domains are like uk.coms I think. The co. that registered uk.com
sells addresses mydomain.uk.com and doesn't tell you it's actually a
subdomain. A .ws domain is Western Samoa (where Margaret Mead was sold a
pony) dressed as "website."
Cheers,
Simon Sheppard
